well off to a new year with wagon trip .we left out on new years day with a cold artic blast soon to come .my friend mike mathews his two kids and wife had come to make the trip with us ,also jimmy dozier with his two big paint draft horses came along.as we headed out the weather began to change it was getting colder by the minute ,down the road about 6 miles we hit the dirt roads on the state land ,so we decided to take a little break ,i asked mikes daughter(cameron mathews) are you cold do you want to ride in the wagon no way she replied i want to ride my horse .so off we headed to the hunter camp ,we arrived at four o clock just right for setting up camp .mike and jimmy had left there trailers over there that morning so i parked my wagon next to mikes trailer and pulled out my tarp ,man was the wind blowing now and very cold.first on the list get a fire going and cook something to eat and that we did .after a good meal we broke out the dutch oven and cooked a blueberry cobbler and hoe cake(bread made from flour)man was it good.well of to sleep time to try my new wood stove out man did it work great my wagon stayed warm all nite .well the next day the tempature would not get above 32 so off we went for a ride .that morning we had put the cover on mikes wagon and put a propane heater in the back for the kids although cameron refused to ride in the wagon she would ride her horse she replied.when we got back to camp it was about 25 and the wind whiping so of to the store to get something to eat this time .after going to bed that night the temperature droped to 15 ,but my wagon stayed about 75 all nite .well off toward home the next day cameron finally said i dont want to ride my horse today its to cold so in the wagon with her dad about 16 miles home .we had made it 3 day of the coldest weather we"ve had in years hats off to the little lady for being tough as nails just 6 years old what a gal .hope to see ya on the next trip kenny tyndall (lasthillmulefarm)

  1. Wow, I remember how cold it was last January! My family was huddled in my garage celebrating Old Christmas with the traditional oyster roast. Freezing our butts off;o)
